hmmm

When you start off in a relationship, you're a baby as to being anywhere close to comprehending the meaning of love. Then, as time progresses, you grow together and as individuals, so that hopefully when more time passes love has a greater definition in your mind. You hope that you’re still growing together and that your definitions of Loving someone coincide with one another. After growing for so long, your definition becomes so rich and powerful, you can never match a simple word as love to its hybrid complicated technological definition. After your one true love leaves, what’s next? You have grown so much and you feel as if you can not relate to anyone not having the same experiences and understanding. Is it possible to find someone that had stopped at the same point and that will pick back up where you left off, understanding each other’s hurt? Or do you have to start all over again? If you have to start all over again you feel as if it’s not worth it. Too much time effort and energy into something you feel will fall apart every time and that will just end up in the same predicament and pain you felt from the first one.

Maybe this perfect relationship never really existed in reality;what if it only existed in your mind or someone’s dreams. I'm afraid that reality, as we know it, is someone else's dream. When the dreamer wakes, I'll no longer exist. The hardship is when you realize it’s over and it was not anyone’s dream but reality. You will never come face to face with that feeling again, and you have nothing to turn to once its over, nothing to make you feel as you once did. I can compare it only to a shooting star. You wait your whole life for the star. When it finally comes it’s amazing and you feel happy, over joyed and so fulfilled. Once it’s gone what’s next? You will not live long enough to see it come around again, and none will ever beat or even match such spectacle. You feel as if you could never be full again. I’ve always believed “A great lover is not someone that can make love to a different woman ever night but love one woman for a life time”. What does one do, once there star is gone. Wales have one life partner and once they’re gone they are alone never seeking another mate. Are we….. Do I to hold my one cherished love in my heart forever and never seek to fill the void of her absence or do I seek replacement. Can such love ever be restored by someone else? The past can and does hurt and you have two choices you can run from it or learn from it. But in this case what is there to learn.

Are we meant to be like the whales and cherish the time we did have, not putting ourselves venerable to hurt once more? Or do we push on with false hope setting our self up for repeated failure with a downward spiral into a deep dark hole of depression. Making not only our self but everyone that tries to get close to us and the people that have always been there unhappy!

Dance

Dance

The first event I observed was a frat party.  This event was extended because whether or not the music stopped or started it did not affect the dancers and there was also no set start or ending time.  The general macro features for this event were college students, and the time was general being at 10:00 pm but the rule is no one ever shows up to a party on time.  Also the general place of the party was in a frat house but on all the levels, though the dance floor was limited to the first floor. The micro feature of this event included lots of energy, fast pace, grinding and hours of dancing.
The main purpose of the frat party event was to have fun.  People were packed tightly together and danced for hours.  Everyone was talking, laughing and seemed to be enjoying the night.  Fast pace rhythms and dance movements seemed to fit the mood of a wild night free of inhibitions. In my opinion the party fulfilled its designated purpose, people the next night talked about the party.  People were smiling during and after they left and seemed to have had a good time.  Overall the presenters of this event fulfilled the party’s intent; the people all seemed to have fun dancing the night away and socializing.  The basic non macro and micro features of this event include the dance floor not being on a stage or in a different city or classroom setting.  The party itself is at a residence of students and does not include alumni or people whom may affect the behavior of the younger generation.
The second event I observed was a charity dance fundraiser. This event was contained because there was an official start and end time and each performance had an affect on the audience that was watching.  The audience varied in the response to each dance, either clapping loud and quickly or slow and quiet.  The macro features of this event included the performers and the audience.  The event was held in a ballroom, there was a set dance floor and tables for the audience. The event started at 7:00 pm ended at 10:00 pm.  The charity dance event was held for upper class persons whom would be most willing to donate money for the cause in need.  The micro features of this event included a lower set of energy.  The dances were slower pace and prestigious dance skills and while the pairs were close to their dance partners they were spaced between other dancing pairs.  Movements were smooth and connected, the dance partners seemed to be connected each knowing what the other was doing next.
The main purpose for this event was to gain funds for charity, and in my opinion the fun draising event was successful because the members of the audience gave out their donations in plentiful amounts. The dancers enjoyed the time with their partners and the audience was in awe of the fluidity of the dance.  This event’s non macro and micro features does not include a younger generation of participants.  This event required dressing for success unlike the frat party goers whom dress to look appealing to the opposite sex.
These two events were very different from one another when you look at the individual macro and micro features. The features that are not present may help to define the events further.   There are many different aspects and angles to look at but the main point is being open minded and enjoy the rare opportunities of participation and observation of dance events.

Environmental Awareness for Kids

Goal:
  • To educate youth the importance of recycling
Why:
  • The acceptability of recycling bins are not enough. The people don't see the importance of recycling. The bins being there isn't enough. Most of the population is not educated of how much of an impact we can make. Simple education will give the individual enough drive to take a simple task as recycling and make it an action.
How:
  • Target the youth
    • Habits have to start young
  •  Through school districts
    • That's the best way to reach kids.
    • pick a grade and visit annually ever class that comes through
  •  Pick activity's that will show the importance and how easy and fun it can be
    • You have to connect with them on there level and make it memorable
 Out come:
  • Getting out youth to see the importance of recycling
  • Have the youth get in the routine of recycling
  • Make recycling become a force of habit

Problems:
  • Kids get bored
    • We will have hands on activities to keep there attention.
  • Kids parents not following threw
    • Cant get them all. some people will never hear you no matter how loud you are
Pretrial:

I decided because I am really good with kids it would be easy for me to volunteer to teach a camp on a weekend that we were home.  We taught a summer camp about environmental awareness, gave them fun activities that help save the Earth by reducing, re-using and recycling, while providing them with ways they could talk to their parents about how to make their lives more compatible with nature.
First I gave them a kid friendly lecture on what items can be recycled, re-used, and some things that can be either reduced or substituted for safer more green products.  Along with this lesson was an introduction to composting.  To test what they learned we played a game, the game involved a bunch of pictures (printed on recycled paper and laminated for re-use) and three categories that allowed the picture to be placed in.  There was the trash bin, a recycle bin and the compost bin.  Each Group of kids was given a handful of pictures and was to sort them into the cleanest form of waste management.  If they got it right they could choose a prize, if not they were allowed to find and correct their mistake to get a prize.
After the initial lecture we introduced activities to the girls that were not only fun but helped the environment as well.  First we made bird feeders out of Orange Juice Cartons.  This helped to keep the cartons out of the dump and is friendly to nature, mainly the birds. Next we used broken pieces of crayon and melted them into molds to create new crayons.  Most crayons that get broken are thrown away but the wax doesn’t bio-degrade, so instead of throwing the pieces away we combined like colors melted them and poured them into molds so they could still be used.  Then, we moved onto Edible Play Dough which is a safer alternative for younger kids who will put anything into their mouths.  Also after it is done being played with it transitions right to snack time. Next, we made Toad Abodes, which took clay pots and paints, this gives toads a place to hide and live and beneficial because the control bug populations.  Finally we made recycled paper.  This activity was a hand on experience for the kids to learn about recycling, and re-using, and it was a fun way to help save some trees.
After the activities were completed we gave them hand outs to take home with those activities and others they could do with their parents that were eco-friendly ways to occupy a child’s mind.
Through this experience we learned that the best way to change the way people think about going green is through children.  Habits are picked up as children and they can last a lifetime, and we should start by giving them the behaviors that will help the Earth early so more people will catch on.  I personally learned that going green is more than just recycling; it also involves teaching others and spreading the spirit of going green to more than just a classroom. Also I had learned that children grasp the idea better than most think, and that kids are the best way to influence multitudes of people.  Not only did the girls have fun learning how to be more green, they also talked to some of their parents about changing some of their less than eco-friendly habits.  People watching our program also took notice to some of the key points in the lecture and have changed some of their practices in trash management.

Hand Out #1:

Making Handmade Paper in 10 Easy Steps

Paper Products That Can Be Used
  • Computer Paper (unprinted)
  • Newspaper (If you want a grayish colored paper)
  • Magazines
  • Egg Cartons
  • Old Cards (For heavier paper)
  • Toilet Paper
  • Paper Bags
  • Non Waxed Boxes
  • Office Paper
  • Tissue Paper (For finer paper)
  • Typing Paper
  • Napkins
  • Construction Paper
Supplies you'll need:
·         Sponge
·         Window Screening (mold)
·         Wood Frame (old picture frame can be used too) (deckle)
·         Plastic Basin/Tub (Large enough to totally immerse frame)
·         Blender/Food Processor (For making paper pulp)
·         White Felt or Flannel Fabric
·         Staples or Tacks (For tacking screen on frame)
·         Liquid starch (optional)

1. Select the pieces of paper to be recycled. You can even mix different types to create your own unique paper.
2. Rip the paper into small bits, and place into the blender. (about half full). Fill the blender with warm water. Run the blender slowly at first then increase the speed until the pulp looks smooth and well blended. ( 30 -40 seconds) Check that no flakes of paper remain. If there are, blend longer.
3. The next step is to make a mold. The mold, in this case, is made simply by stretching fiberglass screen (plain old door and window screen) over a wooden frame and stapling it. It should be as tight as possible.
4. Fill the basin about half way with water. Add 3 blender loads of pulp. (the more pulp you add the thicker the finished paper will be) Stir the mixture.
5. Now is the time to add the liquid starch for sizing.(This is not necessary but if the paper is going to be used for writing on, you should add some, the starch helps to prevent inks from soaking into the paper fibers.) Stir 2 teaspoons of liquid starch into the pulp.
Place the mold into the pulp and then level it out while it is submerged. Gently wiggle it side-to-side until the pulp on top of the screen looks even.
6. Slowly lift the mold up until it is above the level of the water. Wait until most of the water has drained from the new paper sheet. If the paper is very thick, remove some pulp from the tub. If it is too thin, add more pulp and stir the mixture again.
7. When the mold stops dripping, gently place one edge on the side of a fabric square (felt or flannel square). Gently ease the mold down flat, with the paper directly on the fabric. Use a sponge to press out as much water as possible. Wring the excess water from the sponge back into the large plastic tub.
8. Now comes the tricky part. Hold the fabric square flat and slowly lift the edge of the mold. The wet sheet of paper should remain on the fabric. If it sticks to the mold, you may have pulled to fast or not pressed out enough water. It takes a little practice. You can gently press out any bubbles and loose edges at this point.
9. Repeat the steps above, and stack the fabric squares on a cookie sheet. Save one fabric square to place on the top of the stack to cover the last piece of paper. Use another cookie sheet to press the remaining water out of the stack. (do this outside or in the bathtub, it can make a mess)
10. After you press the stack, gently separate the sheets. They can be dried by hanging on a clothesline or laying them out on sheets of newspaper. When they have dried peel them off the fabric and voila! you have paper!

Hand Out #2:

Toad Abodes

What You Need:
  • Small terra cotta pot – around 4”
  • Acrylic paints
  • Paint brush
  • Newspapers
  • Small spade
What You Do:
  1. Spread some newspapers out on your child's workspace so she won’t drip paint anywhere.
  2. Have your child decorate her pot with nature designs, petroglyphs, or whatever she would like.
  3. When the pot has dried take it outside to a spot that is in the soil – a flower bed that doesn’t get any pesticides would be great, otherwise a spot under a bush or tree.
  4. Next, have your child take the spade, dig down in the soil a little ways and bury the pot halfway in the ground on its side. Think of it as making a miniature cave. Leave the soil turned up, don’t pat it down.
  5. Now you have a toad house in your yard! If you don’t attract a toad with your first toad house try moving it to a different location. Soon, you will have an ally against garden pests.

Recycled Crayons

What you will need:
  • Old and broken crayons
  • Mold (you can use any shape you like)
  • Crock pot
  • Spoon to ladle melted crayon wax
  • Needle and thread (optional)

1.      Remove the wrappers from the old crayon stubs, and sort by color.
2.       Then place the stubs into the crock-pot, set at "high." Stir; heat until melted; reset heat to "low." Spoon liquid into crayon molds.
3.      Let them cool and harden - and you have new crayons!
4.      Color a box or a coffee tin, and put your crayons in it. A box-full of homemade crayons makes a nice, useful gift.
*You may wish to include a mold and these directions.
1. To create a colorful holiday ornament, pierce a still-warm crayon with a threaded needle, or heat needle before piercing it through a cooled crayon.
2. Remember to use a strong enough thread to make a looped hanger.

Hand Out #3:

Juice Carton/ Milk Carton Bird Feeder

To make a Milk Carton Bird Feeder, you will need:
·  milk or juice carton
·  craft knife or scissors
·  wax pencil or crayon
·  ruler or straight edge
·  two small lengths of double-sided tape
·  two bamboo skewers or straight,
·  bird seed
·  hole punch
·  twine to make a hanger

Instructions:

1. Use the wax pencil and ruler to draw the shape of the opening on the front of the milk carton, as shown in the diagram at right. The opening looks like the outline of a house with a peaked roof. You should allow about two inches at the bottom of the carton to hold a good amount of seeds.

2. Use the craft knife to cut out the opening. Younger children will need an adult to help with this part.

3. Using the top of the peak as a center point, fold the piece of milk carton that you just removed in half along its length. Make a half inch cut from the point of the peak down the center fold. Fold up a half inch flap on either side of this cut, as shown in the diagram at right.

4. Attach a length of double-sided tape to each flap.

5. Insert this roof piece into the top of the opening and use your fingers to press the flaps against the inside of the milk carton until the double-sided tape holds securely.

6. Poke a bamboo skewer or thin straight twig through the wall of the milk carton, just below the left side of the opening. Repeat on the right side. Poke skewers all the way through and out the back wall of the carton. This keeps the perches straight and secure.

7. Use a hole punch or a skewer to punch two holes through the top line of the carton.

8. Thread twine through the two holes to make a hanger.
9. Fill the bottom of the feeder with nyger seed or a small bird seed mixture. Hang your milk carton bird feeder from a tree branch that you can reach easily when you need to add more bird seed..

BLOG 5

This semester my resume has grown to include the work I have accomplished through a Michigan State University radio station.  Taking in my advice and suggestions helped them in their overall goal and direction. I have learned how to use social media websites as a tool to further the aims of a business, brand, or function. As a result of this project, I not only have things to add to my resume, but a tangible end product as represented by my blog. On my resume I listed all the social media websites I am familiar with, in addition to trade and athletic skills. I chose to include the technological skills I have learned because they are valuable assets in any field now that media and networking have become so fully integrated into modern life. I did not, however, emphasize these skills primarily and instead opted to incorporate my other varied skills as well to show that I am well-rounded and talented. I plan to alter my resume to emphasize the skills necessary  for each respective job I apply to. I feel all my recent additions will enhance my resume. The Skyrocket reading seemed to repeat the same advice to avoid posting anything online that could be interpreted as negative. But it went even further to explain the need to project a positive, active, and original persona, and to use the communicative power of these sites to expand personal influence.

The biggest thing that was proven to me is that internet destinations such as Facebook, are a great resource for doing studies and social experiences. With these new ways of doing studies give you an easier time detecting similarities with certain controls. These similarities  after we prove that there is a big  enough repeating outcome these can give you enough evidence to say that for certain a certain theory be true.
I would relate a study to my math days. A study is just like a mathematician uses a math theory. You can say an answer and not show why because the work is already done. All you have to do is  relate it back to the study because its already proven as fact. It's a lot of work to do the study over and over again so you just refer back to the certain study.
As In the study with the x amount of Facebook relationship status they found that the time of the year had correlation with the flow of break ups and number of relationships growing. After the study it proves then people are most likely to start dating and break up. After this is proven businesses can use this information in their advertising. It shows then they should spend more money on advertising there product and not only that but for what angle at that time of the year. Things like chocolate, flowers, and the movie theaters and really find this information useful. Yes, there's always going to be outliers but that's not the point to say what everybody is doing. The point is to find a big enough portion of society   to make this correlation between time and dating/breakups. The majority is the average and that is your focused to target as much people as you can because those are your consumers that buy your product. The hole purpose is how you can advertise on a more personal level that will hit the most people in the world.
Online/social media interaction is going to be the pioneer to lead us into studding the human nature. It gives a lot more control and options than any other way in the past.  This will lead us into the future on studies to prove outcome that we can use to make decisions that we could never prove for sure in the past. Internet in the posses of making a general outcome, I believe will pop up more and more as years go one.

 Audience Analysis:

~First Thing we have to look at is who we are targeting and what they are looking for!
  • A nalysis - Most listeners and potential listeners are college kids since the station is so close to Michigan State's campus. These students will be our big goal as we push the station forward
  • U nderstanding - When most college kids think of talk radio they think of Rush Limbaugh. Through interviews a majority of people believe this, from their experiences and the experiences of their parents or grandparents. We have to break this train of thought!
  • D emographics - Their age, sex, and educational background are all different but because we have been informed that it is a Michigan State University radio station, our target audience will be college students.
  • I nterest - Of course these listeners will be tuning in for laughs, but we can also give them something they can look forward to each week to let them know about a theme or a topic that you will be covering. That way they can get excited about each program and look forward to it!
  • E nvironment - Set the scene. Let your listeners know you want them to call in, get on the blog,  and post their thoughts. They need know their thoughts and comments are always welcome whether it be on air, facebook, or the blog.
  • N eeds - Your main need it to get your radio show more publicity. When somone mentions Happy Hour anywhere they should know what people are talking about. We need the public to have Happy Hour as a household term they talk about.
  • C ustomized - Our audience, we all ready know, wants humor with information. 85% of college students use Facebook. The rest of the students do have online presence somewhere, just not facebook. In the interviews they all said that they use the computer for entertainment or to seek entertaining things week to week. Facebook is exactly where we will find them. Even those who don't have a Facebook definitely know somebody who has one. People can find out through friends that way.
  • E xpectations - Your audience would want to come off a little bit more interesting to their friends having stories or information they got from your show. (This is also Free Advertising)
Goal Assessment:
  • To get consistent comments on the blog
  • Participants on the radio
  • Get more advertising on the blog
  • To make Happy Hour a well known term
  • Being able to have more options in the long run
  • Have the audience tell their friends about the show

Engagement Strategies:
  • Entertainment - the strategy to amuse the audience to get them to play with their emotions, laugh, and have a good time!
  • Educate - the strategy to teach your audience something so they walk away with something that benefits them.
`Both of these strategies will bring your audience back for more, that plus what we are already doing - we're just trying to tweak it to perfection.`

Engagement Style:
*These are the styles that you use and/or should use!
  • The Game Show Host - competition on the show to help your blog and the show. For example, who can find the best picture or question of the week would get people involved. (People love free stuff!!!) Make it so they can go to the blog and send in their best video or idea to win. Make games that people can either call in for or would need to go online to participate.
  • The Community Builder - Make it a friendly place. When people call in they do it not only because they want to but they feel like they are a part of the show! Make it known while the show goes on that you  not only want them to call but insist them to call the show, comment on the blog and like the Facebook page.
  • The Friend - This way you not ony put yourself on air but put yourself out there in the community. Put up a tent at the football game or some event. Tell them whats going on up there in East Lansing and that you want to see them there, come say hello. You end up not only telling about these events but you also were their with your listeners (getting your name out there!).
 Retaining Potential Listeners/Readers:
  • Structure The Hour-Every 15 minutes of the show have a particular theme. Sports scores, events/parties for the upcoming week, or Hollywood trash - but only spend a a few minutes on these. Also have an opener and closer to start and finish the show. It will give you structure and something people can depend on.  They will know how far they are into the show! Use the rest of the time like you always do because that's your style. Your program is really about selling you, your toughts, comments, and concerns!

  • A Red Button-On the top of the blog there should be an obvious (preferably red) button on the top on the page. This button would say something like "Click to submit". This button is for blog users. Yes, they are following the blog because its fun, but they are also looking at other websites and may find other funny clips and readings they may want to share. We can use our viewers to help us put out more on the blog and make them feel more a part of the show if you end up talking about what they submitted.

  • Facebook-Not only have a facebook that you can "like" the page, but have something on the page they can use that will keep bringing them back. Your Facebook can have:
1. posted points you will hit while you're talking this week.
2. what they missed last week
3. a question of the day or joke they can find easily on the page

    • Having all this information on Facebook allows your audience not only review but also to make comments This will be huge in planning for future shows and discussion as well as that week's show. You can use this to your advantage.  This is how you find out exactly what your audience wants to hear and get deeper into. This will later give you which direction to take upcoming shows.
  • Educating-Entertainment is huge and that is our main goal. That is what the listeners that tune in expect. Through this education is a big way to retain listeners and gain more as well. What we tell them about the world, jokes, stories and gossip, our listeners will tell their friends. This alone is our biggest advertisement.  That's why gossip is so huge. After hearing something juicy and interesting, you have to tell someone else. We want to have people not only telling someone what they heard but where it came from. This is a powerful advertising tool if you can get it going. Any gossip is good as long as it gets your name out there!

Platform Analysis:Each interview used to support these platforms represent at least 10 interviews that came out with the same results. This is what i based my work off.

  • Facebook-
    • Facebook is a social networking website. A gathering spot, to connect with your friends and with your friend's friends. Facebook allows you to make new connections who share a common interest, expanding your personal network.
      • We are using this method because Facebook is a place where you can find just about everyone and inform them of your radio show. 85% percent of students are on Facebook. This makes Facebook the biggest provider for a social networking system. That is why we are going to take it and make it into something we can use.
  • Taking It To The Streets-
    • Going out there seeing and meeting our audience face to face, whether it be knocking on doors, putting up signs, handing out flier,s or even going into the class rooms.
      • We are using this method because it lets the people not only know you're there but you're there for them. This will show our community that we not only care about what we are doing but about our audience. Additionally it may connect to some of the people that may not have a Facebook.

  • Audience Pass-It-On-
    • This platform is to encourage the audience not only to receive what we broadcast to them but to tell their friends as well. If they can't remember and want to show them, let them know the blog and facebook is there. This will also help with advertising, getting our name out there to the people he haven't reached it yet though their friends that listen.
      • The best way to get someone to try something is having one of their friends get them involved. Most times people try new things because they were following a friend there. That's how popular stuff stays popular for so long.

How To Use The Platforms To Getting Their Attention:

  • Make A Group-
*This will allow you to have a home base for your Happy Hour radio show.

      • Make posts-This will allow you to let your followers know what you will be talking about for the upcoming week and comment on them
        •  Find out if they like the idea or not
        •  Additions to your topic
        •  Help with future themes or ideas
      • Profile picture- You want to have a bright and colorful picture to attract people.
        • This is the first thing the viewers look at. Looking at these two pages they are exactly the same! the bottom one is the official page for Albion college Class of 2013, but some reason more people in the class joined the first one. 5 times as many members joined the one with a picture than the one without. same results happened when it was a dull picture to a bright and colorful one. The more eye-catching picture gets the numbers.
      • Information-It's good to have information on the page. It's something just to get the people coming back. Once they come back, they see what else has happened and see that the page is active and they may comment for themselves.
          • This is a perfect example of a page. You have the bright and colorful picture and information to get your viewer hooked. On this Billiards Page, you can see where the best tables to play are and who are the top competitors. If you ever want a good game or  maybe to find someone to teach you how to play, this page would be able to tell you almost instantly.

To the streets
  • Get Out There With Your Community
    • Talk to people-
      • People will listen if you just want to talk among the talking. Let them know you have a radio show and they should listen if you come off as their friend.
        • If they sound interested, hand out information on a flier and always have a business card on you. Hand them out like candy. Make it so they can remember at the end of the day that they talked to a really nice guy who made them laugh and they may just tune in to the show that week.
    • Present to classes-
      • If you get invites to classrooms to discuss your business, making it educational for the classroom would make a huge difference
        • Students trust there professors. If it was important enough to let you come in and talk they just may tune in
    • Go to the dorms-
      • Put up reminders on every door to let everyone know that you are still there and if they need relief from their stress, you're there to make them laugh every Thursday at 7 before they go out.
        • If they get really bored and tired of Facebook they may just get online and see what that reminder is all about. That's where they will look it up on Facebook or go to the link to the blog and page.

  •  Audiance Pass On-
    • This is the biggest advertisement of them all. If you can just talk about something or do something amazing to get people to talk about it you have everyone that already tunes in advertising for you. People will get to know you exponentially.
      • If you can be your wacky selves and insist on your audience telling your jokes and stories to their friends, this will get others to tune in not just because they were told by pieces of paper or the internet but because of their friends. People are more likely to try something for the first time if one of there friends does it first.
All these things are just one step to meet our goals:
        • To get consistent comments on the blog
        • Participants on the radio
